What is your current role at Therapy4thePeople?
I’m the Regional Ambassador for Arkansas. I’m responsible for finding resources in the region of Arkansas and networking and collaborating with mental health agencies in the region to promote affordable equitable mental health care for all.
What’s something special about your region that other people may not know?
The “percent of need met” for psychiatrists in Arkansas is 30.2%, while the national “percent of need met” is lower at 28.1%. (Source)
What motivated you to join Therapy4thePeople?
I joined Therapy4thePeople so I can assist in expanding affordable quality mental health services to people in my region and beyond. I also loved the mission of the organization to promote services that serve people of color. I fell in love with this mission because throughout my early career I have seen that barriers to mental health services are a huge obstacle for the communities I serve, including cultural, systemic, and financial barriers. I hope that through my work at Therapy4thePeople I can help dismantle some of these barriers to expand mental health care to those who need it.
Where are you currently in your career, and where do you hope to go?
I’m a Clinical Psychology grad student at the University of Arkansas. I hope to be a pediatric clinical psychologist one day and to expand equitable services to children and families with disruptive behavior disorders and autism. In my work, I see a high need for affordable quality mental health care that respects the values and needs of systemically marginalized groups.
